The new beta update of WhatsApp indicates that the firm owned by Facebook is going to increase the limits for calling audio and video groups to accommodate more users.
The new community calling cap appears to have been raised from 4 to 8 thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta update and research by the guys over at WABetaInfo.
That may not suit either Google Hangouts or even Facebook Messenger, but it’s a solid increase.
It is worth noting also that the thresholds have not yet been set. In the 2.20.133 beta build WABetaInfo simply found a new UI to connect up to 8 concurrent callers in a community call.
Let’s hope that we can soon get the option on the stable build, as it’s going to be very helpful as the COVID-19 coronavirus lockdowns continue around the world.
With more users taking and making group calls with friends and family using WhatsApp, having an expanded cap would be a huge bonus added to the already solid app experience.
The current cap for whatsApp calling groups is four users at the same time.
This increased cap will only be possible if all callers use the code string update, which ensures that you will have to ensure that all participants keep their software updated on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, the new limit could not be defined by WABetaInfo but any increase is certainly welcome at this point.
Not only are we expecting group calling limits to be increased, but WhatsApp is also working on a new call header within the app.
This is already rolling out with the v2.20.129 update for Android but has already been available since the v2.20.50.23 on iOS.
The header notifies you that your calls are end-to-end encrypted during your calls.
